And we're off!

An uneventful but long journey with a lovely lodge at the end as a reward.

And we're off!

Getting to the airport

A full day of work out of the way, out of office on, and a taxi at 17:00 resulted in us being at the airport 4.5 hours before our flight was scheduled to take off! No problem. Everyone was in the mood for a holiday so an hour’s wait until bag drop was not even an issue!

The wait

Eventually we dropped our bags and had the fastest journey through security ever. Plenty of time to hang around airside. The flight took off on time and was pretty empty (it is amazing that so many people can get onto an A380 and it still feels empty).

The flight

11 hours later we landed in Jo’berg, standing in queue for at least an hour, but got through, then spent a few hours hanging around.

The next flight

The flight to Windhoek was uneventful but spectacular approaching over Botswana in a fairly small plane and landing at the international airport which was more like a small office building in the middle of the desert!

The hotel

The driver obviously hadn’t been told either when we would arrive or how many of us there were, so we crammed into a small Mazda and eventually got to Arebbusch Travel Lodge which was surprisingly luxurious! Some nice looking pools (which we didn’t get to enjoy due to the quick turnaround), a decent pizzeria and restaurant and an awesome villa for shelter.

A long day - almost exactly 24 hours of travelling door to door, but we had arrived safely ready for the great Namibian adventure!
