Sesrium to Swakopmund

Heading North to the first town en-route.

A more relaxed start this morning. We left the sand dunes to head North to the first town and AirBnB of our journey. Back along the gravel road we had driven from Solitaire (past McGregors, but no longer in need of the famous apple pie!), staying on the main gravel road all the way to Swakopmund.

When we got to Swakop (as the locals call it) we had to find the letting agenct on the main drag. We drove up and down then eventually found them, greeted by Emma who handed over the keys after the usual formalities and took us to our digs.

Wow - we had the ground floor apartment looking straight onto a park and then the Atlantic. The weather was cold and gray, but the view was pretty nice, and not having to camp was a bonus! It comprised of a big lounger area with comfy leather sofas, a but master bedroom with ensuite, and two additional rooms at the back of the house.

We went to get a bite to eat, heading for a backpackers’ pub that the guide book recommended. As we walked out to the sea front we saw ginuea fowl roosting high in the trees - as one of Louise’s favourite birds, this was a highlight (we never knew they roosted in trees!).

The pub was good. their moto: “Warm beer, cold food and lousy service” didn’t promoise too much, but I’m glad to say they were being ironic! We had a decent fill, then headed back to watch a movie and try and catch up on the sleep we had forfeited whilst camping!
